Capital City Church (formally First Baptist Church) of Cheyenne is actually “The First Baptist Church of Cheyenne!” Our original Articles are signed by Francis E. Warren who was awarded the medal of honor after the American Civil War. He would become Wyoming’s first Governor and go on to serve in the U.S. Senate. Our Articles predate Wyoming’s statehood and are filed as in the Territory of Wyoming, 1877, 13 years before Wyoming became a state.
There is much water under the bridge with this historic church, including two other building locations. Our current location, at 1800 E. Perhsing was completed and occupied in 1956. The Emmerson Hall addition added administrative offices and a gym in 1977.
In 2017, the church left their longstanding relationship with the American Baptist Convention to become unaffiliated. It continued for a year and a half with Interim Pastor Paul Grantz and voted Karl Pickard as its Lead Pastor/Teacher in January of 2019.
